A 44 year old man has a serious degenerative brain condition. It was diagnosed in 1982. In due course his condition will result in him being entirely dependent on others for care and food. He will lose his ability to swallow and will need artificial nutrition and hydration (ANH) to survive. He is likely to retain full mental capacity until the almost the end of his disease and he will be aware of the pain and discomfort that will result from malnutrition and dehydration if ANH is withdrawn.
He wants to be fed and hydrated until he dies of natural causes. He does not want ANH to be withdrawn and does not want a decision to be taken by doctors that his life is not worth living. Should he be allowed to demand this treatment? (please select one)
a) Yes
b) No.
If you wish please state why.
Please state your Age : Gender:
