Nairobbery homecoming:

Not sure which is worse; the fact that after 22 years, a man is welcomed back by a pistol whipping; or the fact that the same dire themes he so passionately wrote about have been resurrected so brutally through this attack.

Truth be told, after the horror of hearing about it , then reading the article , I felt Nuthing but shame as a kenyan. I havent browsed the web leo for global news, but i can only imagine the disgust with which the international community will reel back in. He was their own..What will they do to us outsiders if we ever make the insane decision to come down there and visit.

As Lucy Oraing so eloquently put it, the wounds of this mindless act will remain so much longer than their physical ones.

Pray for this nation, and Ngugi and his wife , and yes, those mindless thugs who continue to plunder this nations most prized capital: its citizens. And that bloody police commisionner Ali.

How can anyone feel safe in this city when a CELEB staying at secured apartments a few minutes away from CENTRAL POLICE STATION gets viciously attacked.

This only strengthens my resolve that kweli if its your day, its your day. Not to sound like a lunchtime roadside preacher or anything, but We live by the grace.

This is how we treat our returning exiles...

Nairroberry: day thirty something

been a while since i last did my thing; what can i say: Nairobberry has taken its toll on me.
Seven fifty something and not even two sentences..I had a grande plan how i would blog you folks to smitherines but spent the better portion of the hour making rounds in this forsaken city looking for an internet cafe that was not busy waiting for their technician to get out of his sheets.

Anyway I will stop whining. I am wrapping around myself the image of a crying lil punk who'll never be satisfied. Truth is I LOVE this city. Forget about the 'Joue de vive' of montreal - this place is alive in a way that few can describe. I am reading this book called kwani? (part 2) - a collection of Nairobi/Kenyan style narratives that capture the socio-economic culture pretty well. Highly suggested read for anyone abroad feeling like they need an Instant peice of home.

The rev has worn me out..I have made it a pact to spend more time at home with my folks. They have always been uneasy about my allegiance to my social life, one clinging for its dear existence. It is a harsh change for them i guess..from the days that I abhored night life and would stay home and watch soaps with my ol lady or eat a calm , paced dinner with my dad without the myraid of phone interruptions inquiring about when and where tonights plot was.
When my folsk got Cats beginning of this year, it became clear they were missing something.
I hate to say this , but i actually sort of miss their company as well
..so i have to think of ideas to spruce up our time together. I recently started a bible study with my mom - so every Monday Jionis she takes pride in sitting me and my cuzo down and running the show. Great fun aki..we always have these long protracted discussions that have become the basis of my faith and understanding of the word. Our most recent conclusion was to start my mom a blog where she can air out all her mini sermons!! I never thought the day would come that my ol lady would become excited about technology. Alleluyah it is here.
The zacks..hmmmm still trying to work that one out. Wanted to take them out to dinner to some authentic swahili restaurant somewhere coz he likes going out..sucks their bloody standards are so high. Feel free to drop me any ideas.

Coasto is HAPPENING next week. Cant wait. more on that soon..

One love. Get your blog on.
