Costly Comparisons

Let us get the tsunami disaster and, indeed, all the problems afflicting the 3rd world into perspective. Here is the perspective.
Cost of one F-22 Raptor tactical fighter jet-$225 million
Cost of the US war in Iraq-$228 million a day
Amount sent by Messrs Kerry and Bush election campaigns-$400 million
Estimated cost of Mr Bush's second inauguration and ball- $1 trillion
Cost of Us war in Iraq in 2004- $147 billion
US reconstruction aid budgeted for Iraq (though never spent)-$18 billion
Amount the US initailly offered in aid to tsunami victims- $10 million
Amount US offered in tsunami aid after being chastised by the UN- $35 million

hey

hello guys, how are all of you doing? hope you are all fine and hope you enjoyed christmas.
Well the tsunami tragedy is really a sad issue for me and i believe many of us. I just found out yesterday that the tidal waves reached Kenya. Well they also reached Perth but thank God it was nothing serious. The death toll as of now is 125,000 and is still on the rise. Very sad indeed. I thought I had a terrible christmas-my housemate went home on Christmas day and was passing through Indonesia, but she was not affected by the tsunamis;I was originally going to sleep the whole day on christmas day, but a friend of mine called me for lunch, lastly i had no family to celebrate it with-pretty bad eh? not at all. I thought this was the worst chritsmas ever. But when I learnt of the tsunami tragedy-I just stopped whinging and complaining to people about how bad my christmas was. God kept me well and I had no major problems. This tragedy has really humbled me for a while, I was being selfish, wallowing in self-pity. The guys in South East Asia and parts of east Africa have had the worst christmas I can imagine, and mine was no where near bad-am alive aren't I, my whole family is well, my friends are well, what more could anyone ask for? Ieven know this Indonesian woman who lost her whole family in the tragedy, they were from the province of Aceh- the most affected province in the western part of Indonesia, pretty disheartening to even think about it. Guys you really have to count your blessings.
With all that blabbering, I just want to wish you guys A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR and GOD bless you all.

Can Blogging do any more?

It is only in times like these where disasters of such global scale do communication tools such as phones, faxes, emails etc show their true utility and usefulness. And now with the advent of Blogging as a novel way of communicating and sharing ideas, there is already a lot of talk the role Blogs have in the greater society - social and political advocacy, global dialogue etc.

From an academic point of view, I found the approach by fellow kenyan blogger Ory,(a la Kenyan Pundit) in her participation in the the Internet and society conference at HLS. unBeknownkst to many of you, you indirectly contributed to this conference..read up on the briefing materials of the conference..(if impatient, jump to page 18 for the relevant stuff)

For a less academic illustration, the way
Web logs aid in the tsunami disaster recovery seemed very apt. It is particularly interesting to note how the blog in profle is a Team blog akin to VI, which appeared very inspiring to me.

While i VI's niche is in randomn rants and off-the-tip-of-the-tongue(finger ather) conversation, i thought i should use this thread to appeal for any of you who want to help out. I read in the newspapers yesterday of a little canadian girl who gave her entire savings of $400 to people who've lost their homes to the tsunami.
Help where u can:

Red Cross | Action Against Hunger | American Jewish World Service | American Friends Service Committee | Catholic Relief Services |
Direct Relief International
| Doctors Without Borders | International Medical Corps | American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee | Mercy Corps | Operation USA | Save the Children | Islamic Relief USA

On that note I'd like to hear from you guys if, when and what sort of a role you think virtually Insanity can play in the grand scheme of things..

as we go into the new year, new semester at school, getting closer to graduation and 'the real world' may these words convict us all on what sort of character we should have.
May you and yours have a very blessed New year!! and good luck on all the resolutions

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man(woman), my son(child)!

p2p takes another rough blow

Now this story of
Feds convicting warez pirate is not really good news for peer-to-peer file sharing ..

Truth is..many of us 'file-shares' have turned a blind eye to how these brand spacking new music albums, unreleased movies and games end up on these networks...Matter of fact I 've thought of fellows like the one convicted in the article as modern day Robin Hoods..Stealing from the FILTHY rich and giving to the needy hehe..

Music, Movies, Games are considered as peices of artwork. As unviable(such a word?) as it sounds, if these works were treated like art and not as cash cows by the industry, then money would flow directly to the artists, rather than mainly to the RIAA, MPAA, and Game publishers. Think of the open source movement ( a more interesting OS debate here) that is now stretching far beyond software and into the business enviroment. Given the very imperceptible line between software, digital music, music and games, I think that the authors of this artwork can benefit directly a great deal more from the public with the proliferation of public networks. The big fat middle man (a la RIAA, MPAA, Game publishers has become unneccesary in the way these digital artwoks are distributed.

We lose more and more rights as individual markets through Digital rights management. Essentially we are moving towards a time where we will be paying More for less value!!! I mean the best example occured going to buy a DVD player with my brother this weekend.. All the huge pricey brand name players have significant limitations to what they can play(Region coded etc) , whereas the no-frills alternative could play any format under the sun!!!! and it was like 1/5th of the price. I'm no business Guru, but the more people understand this, the less they will desire the sony's and the Bose's of ubiquitious technology. But hereing lies the problem. The big boys continue to flood the minds of the ignorant masses with marketting that will forever have them by the balls. There is now a very clear shift of this pay-more-for-less trend from hardware to digital content such asMicrosofts DRM software. Interesting to note that the companies who've endorsed the software already are mammoth monopolies.

looks like a not very user friendly future if it goes through..

End times??

Ok after the day before yesterdays Tsunami craze in Insonesia, which to me sounded more 'Day-after-tommorow' like, My growing suspicians thaat the end times are closer than we think began to be confirmed.. i mean 12300 Dead last night, and i wake up leo with 23,700 DEAD. i mean , just like that.

But it was this -
Fingerprint Reader Keyboard - thaat sealed the deal for me aki..doesnt it just scream out that Revelations chapter 13???

This tied in with the famous Bill gates is the antichrist email forward, and there u have it..a fine but bullet proof specimen of conspiracy theory lunacy? Still in the processs of decoding the word 'longhorn' , the pseudonym for the next version of microsoft windows hehe..

Christmas cheer?

Have we got it all wrong afterall?

Reading Vicky's and Denos last posts made me think is christmas really all about the mistletoe and rhye, christmas rhymes and all. I also had the chance to attend a christmas carol concert here and It all felt so meaningless. i mean I was in church but there was no church in me during before or after. For those who dn't know what i mean by this, any encounter i have with something to do with Jesus changes me or touches something inside but I found myself not even hearing the words to the songs. They are too common to have meaning and they were all done up so I couldn't here the words or follow if i tried.

So what does this have to do with the previous posts...well teh whole celebration of christamas is based on the birth of Christ and so being as he was sent as a gift and sacrifice for us should christmas reflect giving and sacrifice??? And since Jesus gave all his life to giving should we do the same at christmas????

so yeah thats my two cents

goodbye suprnova

Ok this cannot be news to anyone..it is currently making waves throughout the blogosphere..nonetheless we must hold a minute of silence for the untimely departure of the benevolent SUPRNOVA.ORG I mean this is big news to anyone who is as avid as I am when it comes to file sharing..(RIAA & MPAA BITE ME!!!!)

These guysthink ati they have won big...I think they are aggreviating the situation becuase they are pushing these guys deeper and deeper underground..

I am more stunned that the guy behind Suprnova(and many other Applications that make our lives aprreciably more worth living) is from slovenia(!), and does it in his spare time for KICKS. Props to these slovenians..they sure know how to make the rest of us software developers look bad..

Long live p2p!

Homeless.....part 2

its great to see that people are in the givin spirit this christmas.
being in stato over christmas, i have been SHOCKED by how fake people are. they go out and spend millions...ok...thousands of dollars on gifts for people/ family but then the whole time they are shopping, they complain and bitch about how 'last year...u know what the heiffer gave me!' or...'shes too fat to fit into that sweater any way.' or...'hey shes YOUR mother in law...who told you to pick such a tacky family.'....

makes me wonder...really what is the point of a gift if it isnt from the heart.? whats the point of a hug or sayin a word, or a smile, if you really dont mean it? Its all fake and void adn really has no blessing for anybody. So this season...remember its not about the gifts, or the new stuff, its about the heart and the Spirit of His Birth in us...coz thats the Greatest Gift we could ever share! Much love and blessings!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR (in case this is my last blog for a while)

Homeless Guy advice

Today caught up in the contagious chritsmas cheer I agreed(more like gave in to) buying a homeless guy lunch..I guess he was more srtuck by my acceptance than anything..so then began the frequently recited schpiel of homeless guy advice as the queue (self serve it was with the cashier at the end)

It is soo important TO say 'I love your' Mother..My mother Died and my sister never actually said those words to her and i know she was ..
etc etc
He goes on and on and mpaka I'm having second thoughts if buying him pizza is worth listening to all of this..
(as he's handed his slice of Pizza..)
Have u heard Jesus Came to -

He didnt finish that line - by the time i turned around Jamaa was GONE!!
didnt know whether to be pissed or relieved bana

Regardless I get a fuzzy feeling about doing something(albeit almost insignificant..the jamaa will be starving agin in NO time..). In the spirit of christmas..do something that u wouldnt ordinarily do to make someones day better. I double dare you!

Insanity...

Short Thoughts

Hi guys, hope everyone is doing fine and taking good care of themselves. I have a few short thoughts for you, found them really interesting.

Help is at hand
That helping hand you're looking for is at the end of your own arm.
Cheap and Cheerless
Never buy what you do not want because it is cheap.
Savings melt away
Money saved for a rainy day is spent in five minutes on a hot day on ice creams.
Great wealth
The greatest wealth is contentment with a little.

On the marriage fever note, my friend's wedding is just around the corner and I can't think of an affordable wedding gift for her and her to-be-hubby. Do you guys have any ideas as to what I should get?
And this question is for the ladies, where can I get a agood quality and affordable, well cheap electric hot comb?

en route

Wallapa folks...
10 minutes to my flight i thought meeen why not just give u folks a shout..Ottawa kuna maendeleo..they have blazing wifi nettworks at their airport unlike Shady Montreal.. i mean cmon..Even JKIA is wireless!!! Ok maybe its jus the jeng spirit in me trying to floss my laptop..not sure..

Anyway, as u can probly alreayd tell this is one of those rushed posts that really have no maana to them, but they usually end up being the most fun to read ama..(dont answer that)

I'm slowly going through a transformation here..U dont understand..I havent seen my Brother and Sis in law for almost 2 years now and so I'm trying to remember what I'm like around them hehe..so the rough, rugged, untidy, curse-like-a-sailor, hangover-nursing, bila-time proctrastinating Deno has GOT to go..hehe My three year old neice is bound to pick up on my bad habits. On the flip side side it is always great to get into 'family-mode' where kids are concerened..college life can fool you into thinking you are forever young and cool.

Oooh words in..Flights delayed so if you thought this was over soon..hehe pole.My flight to Ottawa was already bizarre as it was.. I sat next to this Kid, whos initial flight was cancelled but got rerouted via our flight..He's from Philly and is good friends with Kipkeino's son! Thats right..Kipchoge the kenyan legend from the mexico Olympics who was getting late for his event in 1968 due to traffic, and opted to chuck the cab and run to the stadium!!!! Anyway i thought it was randomn enough to mention..Needless to say we taalked about running, which as many of u know is not exactly my strong point..I tried to school him on those other unknown talents we Kenyans have..swimming, ball, Sooccer et al.

Wow i am one last minute guy.. I packd like 20 minutes before I jumped in a cab towards the airport. Before that i was agonizing whether the gift i got for my sis in law was over the top....THere is reason for concern when her gift box looks much larger than my Brother's hehe..Dont want to come off like i'm sending a message here!!

Jana watched Collateral - Jamie Foxx, Tom Cruise - which was the first thriller i have enjoyed in AGES. Plot was severely well executed, Tom cruise excels as a bad guy and Foxx is more an more impressive. Check it out UTAPENDA. SPeaking of Toms i heard TOm hanks was set out to be the lead in The filming of Davinci code (which i STILL havent read can u believe), but folks dont think he's 'scholarly enough. Haters...

Ok..time to randa randa and spot some pretty Somalina Chic (Ottawa is the lil Mogadishu following the mass refugee exodus) ...I'm feeling lucky.

marriage fever 3

viki! a while back u were cozing about the number of ppl who were infected by this marriage fever thing1!! well...herein comes my vent...and i guess it acts as consolation to u so that u know that its not only in australia...but in canada also!
so first during my exams...i go home to take a break and cook some dinner, my roomie comes in with the mail....in it theres a nice card...so i think 'ohh how cute...a christmas card' but then i open it...and its a wedding invitation from my EX!...ok...im over him and all...but u know how weird it is for somebody u were with to get married??? its like....wa wa wa...what if we had stayed together...would we have gotten to marriage point??
then...number 2, i go online...and my buddy says..'i have sumthing to tell u, i was gonna tell everyone at once but since your not going to be around during the dinner, i will tell you now...i got engaged on tuesday.' the details follow....
then !!!! i get an email juzi from a chile i was interning with sends us all an email with a picture of her, hands up...rocking another ROCK!!!!

so im thinking...clearly theres a bus that i missed...or maybe it was that class that i skived, where they taught u what the secret to having 'that' person in your life who you would even consider spending eternity with....or maybe...when the eligible bachelor allocation was being made...london ontario was missed...

and no im not bitter!! im just frustrated...coz the flings are much much fun...but im wondering...where are the good men...the ones who you can see a future with...the sexy men of God (refer to 'raising helen') the ones who you can be yourself with?
im jst hoping and praying that by the time i graduate and step into that real world...i will be blessed to even start moving in the direction of building a meaningful ka-sumthing with sumone.

and therein ends my daily blog...thanks for the prayers...my sis is doing much much better...n now im going to cook chapoz for dinner...n e one wanna come over

Different view

Viki, I read the article about Wangari Maathai and her comment on how we have lived with monkeys for such a long and hadn't contracted it. It's the same thing as asking why is that we live in a population where there are HIV infected people but do not contract it.
it's a blood-borne pathogen, hence no transmission unless you ingest monkey meat, get monkey blood transmission, and so on. I still believe that the origin of hiv is a jump from simian siv to humans, which later adapted itself to become hiv. Obviously it's not a concrete answer but there is much information out there to back this up. The similarity between the monkey and human viruses is uncanning, and the research done, it's hard to refute...plus i just completed a virology course and i don't think the lecturer would lie (unless he, too, was none the wiser). Well, that's just me. Sayonara...

On land and virtual land..

While we kenyans are still recooperating from the far frlom surprising but thorough lands report Others on the other side of the world have crossed the 'reality' border in their economic pursuits... Check out how a
Gamer buys $26,500 worth of virtual land.

I mean..this is just nuts..this explicitly gives graphic designers/programmers GOD status!!! They can create virtual resources! I have mixed feelings about this one.. will articulate them once they have completely sunk in..and when i'm out of the workplace not worrying about who's checking up on me..

How much of Actual prime Nairobi Land can ($26500 *80)sh2.12 mill get????? Thats like 1 or 2 acres in the CBD sio??

Re:Shiku's Stalker

I was just reading shiku's blog and you know, the same thing happened to me. I met this Kenyan guy on the train. He looked so sad (a ploy to catch his prey). He came up to me, started talking to me. Told me he had just come to Perth, that he missed Kenya so much and that he didn't have any friends. I really sympathised with him, coz i knew how it felt, my first six months in Aussie were the same. He asked me for my number coz he needed someone he could talk to and to call a friend. So,I gave it to him. That night, he called me, saying he wanted to come spend some time at my house. (Well I don't give out my residential address to anyone unless I fully trust them, so I kataad. The next day he called saying he wanted to go the city for lunch, refused coz I was going to uni. He continued to call me everyday. I got fed-up and told him to stop calling and to go look for other women to disturb-(it had dawned on me that he had the intention of making me his girlfriend, by force). Then he said something very scary, "viki, mimi na wewe tutaoana na tutaishi kenyathez na watoto mob". That was it, I just blocked his number. Unfortunately, he came to look for me at uniWhen I saw him I hid. Again, I would see him everywhere I went-if I went to a certain shopping mall, he was there, at the train station, he was there, in the city, he was there- I don't know if that was just coincidence ama he was really stalking me. Anyway,I suddenly stopped seeing him, that was like for two months. One night as I was boarding the bus to go home-guess who I saw? I was soo freaked out. I said hi, he said, "awwwww, you thought you could run away, what goes around always comes around, he hehe... By the way what's your mobile number, I lost it?" I was so relieved, lied to him that I had lost my mobile phone. I have seen him like three times since then, and he keeps asking for my number and my answer is always NO. That was a lesson I learnt: never to give a stranger your number, or you'll be asking for it.

Concern Over My Flirt

Yes it has finally come to this...

A sad state of affiars I must admit..After a few months of abstaining from flirting..ok maybe a few weeks(i'm terrible) I have decided to accept that I have a problem, get it diagnosed and then find out how to get it under control...And I know thses guys are probably not 100% accurate but ask anyone who's seen me flirt...its deplorable( ok so deplorable is a bit harsh but then again so is my flirt)

You are 87% Flirt

I have a funny - or interesting, take your pick - story for you . My classmate, who happens to be Kenyan, started going out with a Ghananian and it so happened that they were in a store whhereby the teller was also from Ghana. She boyfriend happened to know her so a short conversation started up. Shortly after, he introduced my friend to the teller. After casual hellos:-

teller: ...so...are you ghanian?
friend: (smile on her face) no, I'm from Kenya.
(silence, then the words)
teller: why did you have to take one of the good ones?! (attempts to laugh it off)

Ok, I've heard such talk between african americans and Caucasian americans (of which should be a thing of the past, I say) , but never among native africans! I shocked and somewhat amused at the bias among some africans. Are we, too, expected to stay within our country's ethnic groups as far as diversity goes? But that's also debatable, though it's not something you'd expect to hear at random. Fine...I'll take an opimistic view and say that that was her way of saying that the jamaa was of good character.Yeah, let's go with that.....(...heh..heh..heh..)

PULSE: The Smirnoff Experience: A chronology

My fears are confirmed..I think we need to take viky's Class action approach and get these bastards for what their worth..Read the embasrrasing chronology of the fatal 'smirnoff experience'.

Man soon it'll be our underage kids trying to get into Carni after their exams..

Laywers..what is the path of action??? can we raise awareness??!! (hell if only enuff people read this blog!!)

Hey everyone,
I know, I know….. Its taken me ages to blog. This is however not my fault (it never is), but was unavoidable. I blame it fully on memory loss coz for a short while I had forgotten what my username was.
I'm having one hell of a stressful week and its not being made any easier by the fact that I've gotten myself a stalker. This random guy I met on a bus… actually, he sat next to me and kicked me kinda hard on the shin meaning I had to talk to him. A few days later I see him in the library and assume he's jus there to get a book, so I looked down at my feet and walked out of there FAST! The relief of avoiding him was however short lived coz a boy comes running after me and insists on walking me to my lecture. Those of you who know me well enough know its really hard for me to be mean, so I let him walk me and he refuses to let me go for my lecture until I give him my number. So I do, only because he insists on calling me before I leave so he can be sure I gave him the right number. Biggest mistake ever! An hour later the texts start coming in and he calls me at least twice an hour, leaves me messages on my voicemail….. Its hell! Everyone else seems to think its incredibly funny but honestly im kinda scared. At least that's a lesson learnt. I don't care what happens but there aint no way im going to speak to strangers on the bus. I'm gonna listen to my mothers advice the next time. Funny how you realize the folks were right after you do the exact opposite of they tell you to and regret it!

maybe I'm just 'slow'

Tired of arguing the existence of God to your athiest friends? How bout u spit this at them : the
Relativistic proof of God

hehe turns out eistiens work was useful for more than just the A-bomb.

PS dont let the first few sentences fool you..it gets worse as u read on.
PPS if you DO understand something, anything from the reading..kindly say to me in English.

When worlds collide

Somewhat hinging on Viki's earlier post, here are some questions that i've found are some of the questions Liberals throw at conservatives every so often with regard to when the worlds of morality collide

  • How can find joy or comfort in Divinity that would create us incompetent, incapable of reaching the standards they set?

  • What sort of loving Creator would create a system guaranteed for failure?

  • How can a person have a belief system that assures them they are incapable?

  • My all-over-the-place thoughts on these questions:
Stadars of morality are the very platform that allow the existence of the notion of 'free will'.

I find the system of free will is the best illustation of a 'loving Divinity' that u can find. The notion of free will and survival within communties (among many other things) suggests the inevitability of suffering. Free will would not exist if it was not anchored by a COMMON set of standards of thought and behaviour that goverened us all. Were it not common, that would eliminate the 'will' from the phrase.

On incompetentence:, I opt to choose the word vulnerable. To be invulnerable, spitirually, mentally or physically, would render us inhuman, im sure u would agree. The argument for suffering again springs up, but it will lea dme to digress.

The belief system of many conservatives assures the dependency (not incapability) on the divine that is the source this common set of standards.

    my questions:
  • What do you suppose is the real purpose of morals - or any standards of thought and behaviour?

  • Are we capable of setting our own standards/guages of morality?

  • Does free will allow for this?

hey guys how are you? am fine hope all is well with all everyone. I have just been reading about the Smirnoff Experience incident, very very sad indeed. It seems that the organisers of the event will get away with it.
I believe the families of those who were injured and those who are deceased, should bring a class action against the organisers of the event. Kibet do you agree with me? They should bring an action in Negligence and sue the pants off them, so that next time they have such an event, they will take the necessary precautions to make sure that everyone is safe. I believe the families are likely to succeed in an action in Negligence, since the organisers owed a duty of care to everyone who was there on that day, the standard of care was breached and causation of injury or death was a result of the event organisers not takeing precautions and the injuries caused were not remote. Damages- perhaps compensatory or exemplary damages.

Tomorrow, I will be participating in a Christmas gig in one of the churches here in Perth. A very big event. For those who do not know, am in a Gospel choir. This will be one of the biggest gigs (audience=20,000 in total) I have ever done, and I am scared, coz I can't blunder like in other small gigs. The stage for this gig will be very big and spacious, so I can't even dare blunder. In prior gigs, the stages have been very small, so the choir members are squeezed and it is hard to see us guys make mistakes if you are in the audience. So, I want to request you guys to please pray for me and the choir- that we will be a success and touch people. if you want to see info about the Gospel band and choir go www.andyjamescourt.com.au Go to videos and watch the song titled 'two's company'.
By the way this weekend on Aussie tele, I watched Mama Miti talking about AIDS being developed in Western Labs. Imagine I agree with her.
Take care and guys and have a good day. Cheers

    Price of a Nobel

Interesting follow up perspective the implications of the new platform on which she stands.

Your thoughts? I think first off, the president and parliament of Kenya need to give this woman more respect and ATLEAST have her head the ministry.. I mean c'Mon... Thats like Micheal sitting on the bench in the fourth quarter with the bulls losing??!!

    'Mama Miti" stand tall

Direct translation - mother of the trees, stand tall - seems quite fitting for a woman who single handedly spearheaded the planting of millions of trees.. I watched her on an interview last summer before she had any clue about winning the prize, and what struck me most is that with greatness, comes humility. Here is a woman/person who will arguably have the greatest impact on the history of Kenya if you think about it: the lifespan and role of trees in the ecology, society, economy of Kenya, and she doesnt even front ati vile she's a deputy.

You may sense my sudden, uncharactersitc sense of national pride today, but it shouldnt have to be snuck up on you. It should be more apparent, all day everyday..but incase u werent aware, I am PROUD to be KENYAN - and all the baggage that comes with it. Yes the social drama, the drunkardness, the poverty, the agony at airports, the protacted political disarray. But the good stuff too. Beautiful strong women, tusker, celebration and diversity of culture.

All this came at a price, and it would be unfair to decontextualize the freedoms we enjoy today. The fact that i can sit here, type away as i look at the flag in my living room, to have an IDENTITY. I felt i did not know enough about the struggle: the real struggle. I read a good snapshot piece that i think you should all take a look at. the 11000 (official number) of Kenyans that died in the struggle. It also struck me that the generation of land owners currently descend from the Collaborators of the Btitish settlers who were rewarded for their exposition of the Mau Mau guerillas. In micheal Moore's words - the people who give the most aalmost always lose out the most! Counteraacts the very reason for revolting in the first place.

Well, the General China's, Kimathis, bildad kaggia, Paul Ngei's, I salute you - Notice how i've left out the Tom Mboya's and Jomo Kenyatta's who played their part in the fight, but should get NO credit for 'nyakua'ing UHURU'. the article brought into the picture of the economics behind British protectorates, Meaning that the unprofitable colonies were costly and burdensome.
"Kenya, under a state of emergency, was clearly unprofitable."
I feel this state of emergency - the urgent cry for restitution of lands and control - is what we owe our freedoms to today. Colonies still exist today. i have spoken to puerto Ricans for example, and my surmise is national identity is one of the things most taken for granted.

So this Jamhuri Day - I take a bow - to all the unsung heroes of the struggle. All those never heard. We hear you. All those never seen. We see you through our freedom. Hopefully one day we can all look within ourselves to fight for something that we may never personally enjoy.

    Happy jamhuri!!!

    irony of it all..

AIDS...guess which continent holds 2/3's of the AIDS population...you guessed it!..and do you know that drugs or vaccines developed to treat HIV strains in the northern hemisphere probably wouldn't work for those in sub-saharah African, due to the differing strains? .....talk about trying to help your fellow man. But that's a while other issue on its own.

I've come to the conclusion that we are deliberately trying to wipe ourselves out of this beautiful green earth of ours. You know about the greenhouse effect and the gapping holes in the ozone layer, right? (indulge me for a sec) Well, question, if you knew that the city you lived every so often fell under this free access to UV radition, would you (a) try catch that fashionable tan, not that most of us need it anyway, or (b) try protect yourself from getting skin cancer?
..... maybe the answer's not as straight forward as you'd think ......

    re: hello

    For Vicky:
A1: eternal utopia for those who lived according to the rules of its creator
A2: think the definition comes from whether the action harms or interfers with others well being, which i guess is also debatable
A3: i agree... free will to make our own decisions... as bad as it sounds, we are all entitled to do as we wish .. good question
A4: maybe it relates to one's tolerance level, patience and open mindedness
A5: does money grow in trees???

    Sperm Killers!

All you young healthy male readers who just recently invested in a laptop like myself..dont say you werent warned !!

Is there no escape from tragedy these days??

On the flip side Technology continues to wow me each day. TOday I was reading about
the progress on HIV research and there are coming astonishingly close to figuring out that phenomen whereby some individuals, such as the Langa's (prostitutes) from Ziwani and Majengo, tend to survive much longer after exposure to the virus. Some dont even get infected!

I think after the amount of global research, energy and dedication to fighting this virualnt, stubborn virus, it casts quite the shadow of doubt of the consipracy theories we heard so much about during the advent of the Aids epidemic - that THe HIV virus was engineered in a lab to rid the world of Homosexuals and Africans!

The talk about accellarated evolution of our speicies is additionally frightening ama???

Are you wary of me yet?

Ehhmm guys I have something else to ask you. What do you think of the saying, 'spare the rod, spoil the child'?
Living here in Aussie, I have seen my fair share of spoilt kids- For example, my landlord's daughter, only 12 years old. When the father tries to talk to her when she is on the internet here is how it goes:
Landlord: Sugar, do you want some salad or anything to eat?
Daughter: Don't freakn disturb me dad. Can't you see am on the freakn internet? Don't be a fukn prick dad.
And I am not exaggerating, that is exactly how she talks. Her father cannot do anything because of well the law! The law states that if you hit a child, you have committed child abuse. The law is it really protecting kids? Sometimes am ashamed to a politician and a lawyer-the law can really spoil everything.
One day my landy got so angry he was about to smack her, but she ran to the phone and said, "Dad I am going to call Child Abuse Services. And the father is like, 'Viki can I sell to you a spoilt child, take her to Kenya and teach her a lesson?' I wish. Imagine she threatened to report her father to CAS.
I also confess that there are times I feel like I will smack her for talking to her dad like that. I feel like I have become violent because of wanting to teach her a lesson. Is it right to let a kid go wrong like this? Is there an alternative? Viki

    Hello

Hey guys how are you doing? hope you are all fine. I am doing some research. This research requires me to ask people theological, philosophical and sociological questions. I have asked a few Aussies and they had very good, interesting answers. Now I want to expand my horizons and ask you guys to participate, if you please-you don't have to, but if you do, that would be excellent. I have the following questions:
    Q1. What is heaven?
Q2. Is there right or wrong, good or bad?
Q3. If God is all-good, omniscient and omnipotent, why is there evil in the world?
Q4. Why do people get wary of others?
Q5. Is there equality in Western countries?

My short answers and Stacie's (an Aussie uni student):
A1. A Kenya that is peaceful, free of insecurity, inequality and that has a good social (friends and family), political and economic system = ultimate happiness, in my opinion. Stacie- there is no heaven.
A2. It depends. Killing animals in some Western countries is wrong, in Africa, there is absolutely nothing wrong with killing an animal. Stacie- good and bad, right or wrong is relative to time, place and culture.
A3. As karma (you do something wrong to a person, it'll come back 100 fold), to make you grow stronger, free-will. Stacie- there is no God, is there?
    A4. Don't have a clue, I wish I knew.
A5. Absolutely not. They think they are though. For example, not well-off kids go to public schools/well-off kids go to private schools, this is a well known division. Further, I volunteered in a Legal Community Centre (LCC), last semester- only people who cannot afford legal representation from big law firms, come to LCC for legal rep because its free. The lawyers here do pro bono work. Stacie-I agree with Viki.
Your thoughts and opinions would be very helpful, thanks in advance, viki.
Thomas- I talked to Irene via email. I don't have a number yet.
Kibet- Don't worry, I am the proud owner of a West Australian Driving Licence.

    re: ehhem

Don't have much to say about "wallstreet" (haven't watch it yet), but "one flew over the cuckoo's nest" was certainly a good movie. However, movies adapted from books don't always capture the full essence that the author had in mind, in my opinion. I had to read the book for an english class before I watched it, so I'm a little biased ...... but it's still just my opinion. Still, good movie.. a must watch...

    sleeping giant waking?

Being a tech news junkie and getting more and more hits thanks to the beauty of this nifty not so new thing called
    rss
    , i read about this
Chinese firm buying IBM PC business, and i couldnt help but think LOOKOUT , 21st centurey superpower coming!

With all the news of their insane growth rates of the middle income demographic, unparalleed rate of urbanisation, source of cheap overflowing labour, and large percentage of the educated being technically empowered (think of all the Asians in computer electrical and software Engineering) - it seems to me, simplistic as it may, that it is only a matter of time before the americans get beat at their own game of capitalism. How long..well now we would need the economists here to break that one down..but being the techie, when a Chinese company buys out a company that invented the PC market, this is a sign of greater things to come.

ha i cannot but help remember that Wangu was learning Chinese at some point..and when asked what the hell she was doing, she quiped(keep in mind this is several years ago..talk about foresight!!)
"China are the next world superpower..I'm getting prepared"

She may be on to something!!!

    ehhem

On a less melancholic note, I thought id share with my movie watching exploits..u know , now that i'm more or less already hated for having completed a majority of my exams and having a bit of time on my hands..

Coz i am so bad at recalling the movies i had once reminded myself to make a point of watching, i often end up just rewatching old favourites, and recommending them to people with more fervor than i did b4 hehe..terrible way to re-enforce ur own opinion..An example is of
Wall Street (1987) which i watched Jana and was in sheer delight recapturing Oliver Stones(Platoon, emm cant remember his other flicks) portrayall of the Unmitigated capitalistic engine of greed that was the aermican economy in the 80's. Incase u have still have not even the slightest inkling to see it, this is the role i Michael Douglas won his Oscar from, playing the wealthy high-rolling investor and Charlie Sheen putting on a great performance. I absolutely LOVe this flick. highly recommended.

me and my ol school approach, I decided to see 'one flew over the cukoos nest'. This flick is hailed as one the all time greatest movies, and performances of Jack nicholson, so i thought hey..wacha i see what all the frenzy is all about. Even On my ka 7 inch tv and vcr borrowed from Chris, this was still an amazing story. Simple, and very well acted. anyone who considers themselves a movie buff, tafadhali - must watch. the flick apparently swpt the 1975 Oscars..Best actor, best actress, Best adapted screnplay, best picture! It was kinda cool to see Danny devito in his younger day with hair! I feel like i wouldve enjoyed this more if hadnt recieved so many interrupting phonecalls, but hey there a lesson learnt.

Anyway..I have no aspiring hopes to be a movie critic relax..i jus enjoy a good ol fashioned flick *beyond* the cinema once in a while thats all(read: ching ching or lack thereof!). Try it sometime.

Big up to Nduta, wambui for blogging! thats the spirit..

    CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE

Hey Is it just me or is the love for administrators just rising and rising?

In the space of two blogs we have gotten so much praise from the newbies I almost can't handle it...

Well so much for tea and biscuits invite..

So Joy 'N' Wambui heres a complimentary on the house Champagne(moet) and Caviar, welcome from blog admin.

    CHEERS

    What a travesty..

While this thread may seem a tad presumptious coming from a guy whos numerously faked his way into Carni, it has got to be said. The recent deaths at the Carnivore/smirnoff bash this weekend in Nairobi was indeed a great travesty. Whats perhaps even worse is the manner in which the organisers and the hosts have dealt with the situation thus far.

I mean even their recent Pledge over stampede death probe is weak and reactonary fire-extinguishing at best.

I mean are there ANY in house regulations that govern the max number of people allowed into the event? are there any controls, technical systems, procedures to guage these metrics? Do the management at the Carnivore know How many people there are at a given instant on their grounds on a fatefu nite like this one in question? Do the promoters of these bashes (akina Smirnoff and the rest) take into consideration the projected turnouts and work from there?

From my on-the-ground experiences e.g. the new years eve bashes at the carnivore,I'm afraid to say i doubt if they, they real stakeholders to this issue) can come close to correctly answering these questions..I am not aware of any structures in place to ensure someting like this doesnt happen next friday. In retrospect lookin gback at that new-years-eve experience, if i can abstract from all the merry making, all the pints, all the shouting and partying, the reality of such a scenario are quite terrifying to be honest. That sea of humanity..rephrase: that DRUNK sea of humanity's propensity for catastrophe is way beyond the control of the 10 - 20 bouncers in place.

These evetns are just a disaster waiting to happen..not to cast doom on all you party goers..lakini now that ive been jerked to reality by these deaths, i think we have to take a closer look at the endemic causes .

Having worked as a student casual for our convocation(graduation) ceremony here at mcgill, I have often been awed by their strict adherence to safety policy's and procedures. Take last years for example, say during the Faculty of Arts convocation, kidu 4, 5000 graduants, students, freinds and family are in this one tent. The rigour and non-comprimising stance they give to fire and safety precautions I cannot take for granted any longer.

Carnivore, Smirnoff, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY, and preventative action. put a cap on how many people you allow at a given event. Tone down the promotion efforts, you'll still make a killing off the liqour! And for petes sake start carding those kidos - at the bar rather than at the door. It sumbuas me sana to imagine conservative old fashioned types like my folks wagging their fingers at their children saying "see , how many times have i told you not to go to those disco's", when the real finger pointing should be to bloody Carnivore and smirnoff..who seem to be guided only by the gazillions they make in a night like that.

the irony..This particular bash was touted as the "experience of a lifetime". I'm sure the three kids who died concur..

    RE: Yaani & Hello

Hey Nduta and Wambui! Its great to have you guys onboard. Though i must add that you guys have missed loads of vibe and many cracked ribs (all on vicky's account!). May i be the first (i hope i am) to welcome u guys to an activity that will probably get u hooked, (if u are anything like Denis) it will probably replace your social life, (if u are anything like Isiaho) it will be the place where u vent ur frustrations, (if like Chris), you'l pop your head in and out once in a blue moon just to let ur presence be felt, (if like Kibet) you'l watch and passively (ha ha ) enjoy hearing what everyone's upto, (if you resemble Vicky) (oh, Vicky- sigh....) you will rush to virtual insanity within 15 minutes of any exhilarating event to blog about it, (if like Thomas) you may feel the urge to educate your fellow blogmen on your area of study and post some pictures of any tatoos that you have( lol!)... i think i best stop there and await for the guys above mentioned to comment scathingly on my dubious descriptions... lol!

BUT, please feel free to holla bout anything and everything . A disclaimer though, [that Denis didnt mention to me earlier] dont post any confessions of any crimes because all our blogs seem to be fully accessible on the internet . (vicky.... find an Aussie driving license...).

    Hello

Hi everyone after a lot of help from my very good pal Thomas i have been educated on how to blog. Will make my presence felt for all the time ive been left out.... missed you guys sooooooo much

    Sermon on the Weng'

How you all doing, good bloggers (ps. bad bloggers- akina Wangu and Shifta- are not salamiwad here)

I've just chucked from church like 20 minutes ago and i felt (in Vicky style) that i should let out my observation while its still burning within. The pastor was preaching bout how to overcome evil and there was one thing which he described as evil and i was perturbed to say the least. The guy opined (gave his opinion, lol) that the habit of going out to study and coming back to the country with a 'weng' is evil!!**?? He went on to sema (in the middle of the sermon) about how we have our identity in the way we (they) say 'fis' instead of 'fish' and i almost walked out in protest. Well, i think, in y most personal opinion; that how you decide to speak your English is your own style of cooking ugali! That i went to the land of the english speaking and came back speaking the way the language should be spoken, should not be held against me by my fellow indigenous kenyans speaking a FOREIGN LANGUAGE. Its a good thing that sermons are not like lectures where u can interrupt the speaker and tell him that you think he's lying through his teeth (kunyoa bila maji!). I was hard pressed not to jump up and shout 'ISHINDWE!'.

Its an early morning- may i take my leave.

Re: Digital Camera... its about time!

Have you ever though bout how inconveniencing the kawa still pic camera is in comparison to the digital camera? I t recently hit me that pengine, the digital camera is truly a smart investment. It took me much more than the occasional picture posted on the blog to realise the fact.

Nway, i have managed to stock up a number of rolls of films in my room all waiting to be processed- why? because of the irresponsible photography by my (not so small) family. U would think we have a School of Photography! U jua how siblings (if u have small ones- ama if u were the only naughty child in your household) can amua to pull out the shared camera and take pics of every strange looking insect in the living room; ama they spot a mzuri car in the estate parking lot or the neighbour's house-help. u get the picture (pun intended). Thats the genesis of my most recent expense! I'm trying to have all rolls in my room 'washed' for the simple purpose of locating sme pics that i took like 2 years ago... u can only imagine how washwad i get every time i pay the guy across the counter at the photo studio. (cheapest in town, believe me!) Man i dont even jua whats in half the rolls i'm having processed. I think i'l extort my housemates (upcoming photo journalists, hmmnn!) and make everyone buy the pic with their face on it else i ficha them or worse trash them!

Yeah, so thats why i want to purchase a digital camera. Dear Bloggers, pray tell where i can get a reasonable priced digital camera (still). And also advise on what features i should look out for. (though really... any digicam will be better than my 'buy-a-film-wash-a-film' camera!)

    Shifta! Where u at?

    long time

Kibet ;feeling u on the pics thing.bin having hell scanning and tryin to put these things on the net jus coz my scanner is usin some alien software.plus it would be so much easier for processing formating, and even the little storage coz of the memory sticks.my dad discovered the secret, man, now he's a tech junkie!
deno, kui, etc: the coast pics are out, and its sad to say but, Chris is the most photogenic of us all.am only in a few, coz i was the paparazzi in all that.we'll post em early next week am readin 4exmas so pliz bear
kui,how the new hse?i didt duck on u that day, was goin 4 a funeral in Mks and u know it's not near.came back in the dead of nite. we'll vibe then plan when we can break it in.
abt siku kuu guess will also be in the city. i go to coast on the 10th, this time am drivin so kina deno and kui will see i dont need to be a gentleman at the expense of being marooned in coast at the mercy of some pensioner German tourist.....jus rememberin that nite gives me the shivers. Kibet we can hook up.also wanted to do the get- out-of-nai thing maybe camping.but folks hinted doin the safari thing so will confirm later.

    Re: World Aids Day

"This year's World AIDS Day is an occasion to recognize the
burden that women and girls bear in the age of HIV/AIDS, but
equally, to celebrate their achievements in the fight against the
    epidemic."

How can we possibly not call this feminist!!! Ala! HIV/AIDS itself does not make any distinction between the suffering of the genders, while we (they!) decide to recognise the burden of mamas only! My prediction, soon men will need affirmative action and lots of lobbying to recover the ground snatched by the feminists. Just wait and see! And what happens to the achievements of the male populace in the fight against the epidemic. Purely....feminist (for lack of the antonym of chauvenist!). Perhaps more attention on the men, just may reduce the infection rate in Kenya; more civic education targetted at the alleged culprits should instill at least a drop in the rates. A thought, just a thought. But PURE FEMINISM i say!

    Re: Sikukuu 2004

First, Dennis- i'm sure u mentioned the importance of this email address, but it passed. Please remind me what its about?:

    SIKUKUU

Dennis, i hear you! (ha ha ha) Well my xmas- it will be spent in NBI, my folks aren't feeling the shugs big family vibe. My brothers wedding in shugs on 11th and chums will be exhausted kabisa so shugs is a no-go zone. So i'm geearing up for lots of goat meat, where exactly am yet to find out. Lakini after my obligatory christmas family time, i want to bounce to some nice camp site with a few select person(s) and spend a few days chilled out away from all form of serious thought. I'm thinking perhaps some site in Nakuru or Naivasha. Though am open to suggestions on affordable camping sites (peaceful and serene and any water mass nearby shall be a plus!) Anyone bila plan after christmas can toss an idea in this direction and we can brainstorm bout a retreat.
Thats my tentative (extremely tentative) paln for the sikukuu period.

    Cute N Cuddly

Hey guys how is everyone doing?
Kui, i got your sms, but at that moment i was bila credo and i was in slumberland, so i'll reply soon. Your nephew, 2 words; cute n' cuddly.
Thomas, thanks for the BIT TORRENT info. I went to the website but i could not understand a thing, too much computer language-i was confused and my small brain could not take in much, so could you explain to me in simple English, please.
Dennis, the Aubade Apple chic does not offend me, because i know of the contextual nature of the pic. However, my buddies dissing me saying am a pervert looking at a porn site, not a big deal at all. I know they are joking. something else to diss me about will come up, then they'll forget that they had once called me a pervert. Hey, you removed the Apple chic and replaced her with the Apple logo so quickly, he he he he he he he he he he he he...funny.
Everyone Else, you're all too too tooooo quiet. What's up?

The AIDS stuff- you knowI was telling a friend of mine who's in Kenya, how people sleep around here in Aussie. And he asked me, "Kwani huko hakuna AIDS?". Of course there is (not to a large extent though) but it's not such a big deal to sleep around here, which sometimes scares me. Is AIDS such a big deal in other Western countries? AIDS here is also a hush hush issue-no one talks about it. I guess other diseases such as cancer are more of a big deal.
Anyway, I'll talk to you guys soon, enjoy the week. viki

    RE:world aids Day

Not to sound a tad misogynist,
But my inital feeling when i read Cowi's thread was that hey..Guys get Aids too!! i dont feel that 57% is significant enought to have an entire world aids day to recognize this fact..maybe they should have spent their missionic energy trying to appeal to perhaps more pressing issues relating to the HIV and Aids, like say the reorganization of the commercial pharmaceutical world to enhance innovative approaches to finding and managing a cure. Maybe even make more plausible linkages like HIV and the third world..

Ok and here I'm just trying to be provocative..also coz i'm not sure if its been scientifically proven : are women really more susceptible to Aids than guys are?

I must agree THough that female carries of HIV definitely portray more spunk, and courage in their pursuits to have their voice heard.

On another note, it very coincidently Snowed today...1st of December! Nature and man's Calendar in conspirracy? Dunno, but what i do know is that it certainly brings a shroud of peacefulness in the craziness that has been this week.

Heeey!still wondering what you folks are doing for the ur sikukuu..
Funny i miss going down to ouw shamba back home and literally cutting and bebaing a REAL christmas tree. Funny i also miss the calculated routine of severing those cray-paper decorations..trying to get creative, the family get-togethers with nothing but food as the main priority..

    WORLD AIDS DAY

Got this interesting read in the mail so yeah here you go my lovely bloggers...

    World Aids Day today

World AIDS Day is commemorated around the globe on 1 December to
review the progress made in the battle against the epidemic, and
    brings into focus remaining challenges.

World AIDS Day 2004 focuses on "women, girls, and HIV and AIDS" -
the theme for the World AIDS Campaign 2004. The campaign, with
the strap-line 'Have you heard me today?' explores how gender
    inequality fuels the AIDS epidemic.

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has issued the
following message on World AIDS Day:

"This year's World AIDS Day is an occasion to recognize the
burden that women and girls bear in the age of HIV/AIDS, but
equally, to celebrate their achievements in the fight against the
    epidemic.

Women are our most courageous and creative champions in the fight
against HIV/AIDS. In most countries and communities I have
visited around the world, it is women's voices that are heard
above all others; women advocates and activists who are moved to
act selflessly and speak publicly, often risking prejudice, abuse
or violence, in order to improve the lives of others.

The courage that women are showing in this fight is matched only
by the toll the disease is taking on them. Women already bear the
brunt of poverty. AIDS makes the poverty trap even easier for
them to fall into, and even harder to break. Women continue to
face discrimination on a number of fronts -- from the workplace
to laws governing land ownership and inheritance. AIDS puts them
    at even greater risk.

Girls already make up the majority of children not in school.
When AIDS strikes the family, those girls who are attending
school are all too often taken out, to help run the household and
care for sick relatives. Women now account for about half of all
people living with HIV worldwide. In sub-Saharan Africa, where
more than three quarters of all HIV-positive women live, almost
57 per cent of adults living with HIV are women.

Why are women more vulnerable to infection? Why is that so, even
where they are not the ones with the most sexual partners outside
marriage, nor more likely than men to be injecting drug users?
Usually, it is because society's inequalities put them at risk --
unjust, unconscionable risk. A range of factors conspires to make
this so: poverty, abuse and violence, lack of information,
coercion by older men, and men having several concurrent sexual
relationships that entrap young women in a giant network of
infection. Nor does marriage always offer protection: in some
heavily affected countries, married women have higher rates of
HIV infection than their unmarried, sexually active peers.

These factors cannot be addressed piecemeal. What is needed is
real, positive change that will give more power and confidence to
    women and girls.
Change that will transform relations between women and men at all
levels of society. Change that can only be brought about through
the education of girls, through legal and social reforms, and
through greater awareness and responsibility among men. Change
that will allow women to play to the full their role in the fight
    against HIV/AIDS".

Let's go to the Land Down Under.....

Hello guys, hope you had a good weekend. I just spent time with my friends, and that seems to be the most interesting thing for me to do here. Otherwise, am hunting for a holiday job, working in a factory or something, just to keep me occupied over the holiday and to keep me indoors since it gets very hot herre (35-45 degrees).
Just wanted to tell you something about the land down under. Aussie was discovered in the 17oos, but the first British people (Captain Cook and his guys + some criminals) settled here in 1788 on the East Coast. Australia was declared 'terra nullius'. This latin term means 'no man's land'. The Europeans did indeed find the Aborigines here. The Aussie Aborigines as some of you know are aware, were a nomadic people. Because they used the land in a way that was inconsistent with the European way of utilising land, their land was therefore declared terra nullius. That is, they did not cultivate on the land. Further, Aussie was terra nullius, because the Europeans thought that the Aborigines were uncivilised and were without a centralised system of government or had no recognised form of government or law.
The Aborigines belived that the land belonged to everyone, the land was to be shared and so they did not cultivate it. They also had a decentralised system of government, so they did have some form of government.
The British forced the Imperial Law on them and tried to make them civilised. This factor began to slowly damage their unique way of life.
In the 1960s, early 1970s, mixed blood children began to be a problem for the white Aussies. So, the government decided to infultrate these mixed blood Aboriginal children into white society, by forcefully taking them from their families and ensuring that they go to white schools (to be taught the white ways) or were adopted by white parents. This was called the 'Stolen Generation Policy'. Again this damaged their way of life, caused problems such as identity crisis for many of the kids.
However, the concept of terra nullius was abolished in 1992 in a landmark High Court case known as Mabo v. R.
Currently, the Aboriginal people are unemployed, they are beggers, have high birth rates among the young girls, girls are raped by their fathers, and violence and alcoholism is prevalent among them. They are also treated as second class citizens by the white Aussies. Honestly, I have only met like only 3 Aboriginal people who do not display the above behaviours. So, who is to blame for all this? Aussie's history is very sad and in a way has affected their future. Hope this info will be insightful. Cheers.

    On Women...

    ok....
Its two weeks prevention of cruelty to women in Kenya. We've already missed a couple of days. Think we should do something in honour of this. I was thinking maybe we could each write a clip a bout a woman who we think should be protected from violence..be it someone youlove, admire...loather doesn't matter OR youcan write your views on the subject of domestic violence against Women or rape etc...just do somin...

    DISCLAIMER

To all V.I residents it has come to my attention that not all of you aer aware that this is a PUBLIC blog. Yes it is accessible to anyone on the net who chances us so just be informed...

At the beginning of this blog I think I had quite a good input to it but lately I seem to have less and less time to say hello to my favoutrite people. Reason.....well my life is moving mega fast. too many things going on at once and too much work to do anything. So I thank God for a shift on Sunday when no one else is around and I can just bumb at work and hola at you guys...

Since we last met I have had WONDERFUl things happen to me in a row....

    FIRSTLY ANS MOSY IMPRORTANTLY

    THEN

That weekend for all you coast goers I managed a trip to Mombasa. Yes Nathan I beat you to IT HAHAHAHA...(evil laugh). I stayed at Travell... ooops choking on a lie...Ok so the company was payinng and didn't want to spend too much money I stayed in some cottages right next door to travellers. Had a really great time. Needed the time off work coz really it gets too busy sometimes.Yeah I met SEAN (big fish to those who know him) and he was asking whether we were going down for christmas. He want to take us to teh cliff for a barbeque of seafood and that..special romantic cruise for me and yours truly was thrown in for effect ..but you guys ain't around wassup!!!Anyway don't think I'll be having to time but if its there and we can u Kenyan residents should let me know and you can meet Big Fish

    ALSO

I now have a place to live. Yes it is the cutest two bed apartment I ever saw(in Kenya anyway). Hit me and I'll give you the exact location. Thanks to Kibet for showing up to help with the cleaning...as for the rest of you residents make sure you show up for house warming...let me know when ....

The house move has sucked deep into my pockets I have no further recesses left. Plus I'm planning to do a course to improve myself (and no tis not a drama queen course) thats gonna cost my ass...oh well the end will hopefully justify the means.....

Hey Denis about the gifts I'll suggest
    a) cute 3.5 year old niece - A cousin to play with Kids love that do you rmember when you wer that age and could boss someone younger than you around...play cha mama and get to be the mama and send them everywhere punish tehm etc...

    b) 29year old fashioned baba semi-eccentric home onwer (thought kinda counts for him )

Explain why you cannot provide a cousin for his daughter(no wife no job turned on by comps not women, etc...) and suggets he make anothe juniour if his kida happy so is he.....

    c) 28 year old sister in law techie, doting mom (theres this written law for inlaws that u dont have o go the extra mile ama?)

Same as b above. Add the you are soo great at being a mother you should have another kid etc loads of that sugary stuff you are very able to concoct...

    d) 25 yr old investment banking analalyst (he got me a knife(one of those camper ones!) for last christmas..so enyewe it migh be time for revenge)

Revenge is IDEAL here. IF suggestion b and c do not suffice a solution to your connundrum well then use the camper knife he got you last year to threaten him into getting cute 3.5 year old niece a cousin to play with.....

I trust that should sort out your christmas givings on a very friendly budget of $0.

If b,c and d fail well then it might just cost you sperm and heightened responsibilities as you will have to resort to a.....

    Happy hunting......

    The Da Vinci Code

Hey its me again, I have finished my last exam. I should be happy but am not.
Who has read The Da Vinci Code? If you have not I thoroughly recommend that you do. It is an adrenaline pumping thrill ride, full of suspense that keeps you at the edge of your seat. Best of all it's extremely engaging. In my opinion, not many books reach this high level of engagement, except Harry Potter 1-5 and other few books, Cina will agree with me on this.
However, this book is capable of making Christians and atheists alike mix their reality with the fiction in this book. I know my reality got mixed up, with the fiction, that I was so afraid. I had to stop reading the book for 2 days, until I was back to reality and my reality was that the book is... well... fiction.
Further, the first half of the book is overwhelming, with too much information being provided, that is too much too handle, for a small brain like mine. The second half is light and more enjoyable. I also found the constant interchanging of English words and French words a bit irritating. From the book, one can infer that the author appears to have his own personal grugde against Christianity, which I did not like.
I would also recommend that you watch the movie Quills-strange but very interesting movie set in the Victorian ages. Take care guys.

    Hey Guys

Here I am again. Am bored just chillin' do to my exam. em well just have a good day and God bless.
Kibet: What law units do you do in uni or what areas of law are relevant in the Kenyan legal system? I need to know so that when i choose my electives, i can choose units which can help me in Kenya.
Deno: The haiku's were never graded by the way and what is BIT TORRENT?
    Take care guys, God bless.

    Thank God for Kenya

Hi guys, how are ya'll doing? am fine studying for my last exam, maritime law it is. Kibet is there maritime law in Main? do you do it as a unit or an elective?
Anyway, in one of my Theology tutorials, one guy was giving a presentation about refugees and theology. For his presentation, he brought a refugee from Liberia. The Liberian guy told us when the civil war broke out in the 80s I believe, his family was killed in front of him but when the guerilla soldiers tried to kill him, something mysterious at that time happened and his life was spared. So, he told us, he ran away to neighbouring Guinea where he lived in a refugee camp for 15 years, and then he got the chance to come to Australia. He said he thinks God spared his life for a reason and I see why. I just thought that wow! thank God that Kenya is a relatively peaceful country, even though the politics and the economy are mbaya. Look at Zimbabwe and Ivory Coast now? That Liberian guy has no home to go back to and he does miss his home. We are lucky we have a home to live in and to go back to, and that is Kenya. Guys, I thought that I should tell you this story. Please thank God for Kenya and pray that God keeps it peaceful. cheers

and just when i'd got one too!!

Shoot..if id only come accross this like 2 weeks ago before id made the switch..
Jobs better get his eyes on this
iPod vs. The Cassette lab test...

    welcome baaack

kweli..I feel how mase felt to get back in the game!(much as i hate the catchy nursery rhyme-soudning track..)
Sadly I suck at multi tasking, and this week, last week and next week I'm knee deep in exams..and i havent been able to kep to my usually(?) consistent blogging habit.(for some LUCKY reason i get to be stressed earlier this year wohoo) final papers and presentations all tighly bound into this explosive potent mix that almost seems like its meant to make a nigga go absolutely bananas..

I'm holding up thus far..by the skin of my teeth albeit. I feel so much more of an apprentice entrepreneur than an engineer this sem. last week alone i feel like ive done an MBA three times over or so - perfecting my skills in time-pressured commnication(sending bits and peices of assignment over msn hehe),gracefully but subtly yeilding to highly unproductive group members, handling mass amount of paper and electrnic documents, surviving on noodles and mchele for like a week, leadership through delegation (basically sold my project idea to a friend), meeting with industry folk and begining to fret over how soon u'll be in their place(they didnt seem like a veyr excited bunch - and they were in a game development studio!).

On the flip side..some rather pleasant moments were had lasst week too..I aced on of my midterms that i wasnt expecting too..one of those nice surpises like going to the bathroom in a restaurant and coming back to find the food you ordered waiting for u..wierd analogy i know. I got to be regarderd as the 'superstar for this course' this week, despite the fact that i can only attend 33.3% of all classes(i have another course the same time).

Additionally i got what u might call a rather sexy return on my investment on a new computer this week. This has been a moment i have waited long and patiently for...and my mkebe of a dell desktop has not made it an enjoyable wait either - nonetheless the rugged DELL 2100 celeron 855mhz has served me well for he past three years..he's a retired general now..he willl become my dedicated slightly overcapable tenge...
When i laid my eyes on this hottie right out the box...why lie I got a hard on.
This sleek white Mac OSX powered thing is a gem. If this is what it feels like to be cool, i aint going back! she's is incredibly easy to use, and just a delight to look at. Steve Jobs jobs is not paying lip service marketing this coolness factor - this is value for money, however skewed my value system is. SO far this week she has been on my lap all day everyday hehe..

I once blogged about those annoying ipod kids on my campus grounds in the early days of VI, who'd have thought i would turn into them so soon???

B4 I forget, take a look at the kenyan blog-ring link on the blogs of interest at the sidebar..The goal is to introduce Kenya to this phenomenon..slowly but surely...
Yu can play your part right here..but this is another inherent beauty of blog-comunities..U can contribute , here, there everywhere. Communities , just like relationships, are built through willful contribution alone. Whats your role in the community? everyday u get a chance to define it!

Let me get some rest and hopefully I'll make it through this and next week alive.
Hope u are all being productive in whichever corner of the world u are in..

    one love.
