A Job seekers diary

Hey all, I figure since I've managed to somehow graduate before all of you I should do the mature thing and share my job seeking experience just so you guys know just how tough life is out here(yeah right!!!)

DAY ONE

Appropriately selected to coincide with the first of the month (new month new things) and Denis' departure.

Wake up early. wear that suit, put on that make-up and obviously remind myself my ultimate hope is in my father above. So full of syke I am off on my spree( I won't name the places I've been to just in case someone wired reads this and starts stalking)
SO first two company's I visit teach my my first lesson in Job hunting you are nobody unless you know somebody. My humble smile filled enquiries into the HR departments is met by a cold stare or emotionless smile and a prompt just leave your CV here(i.e reception)

Ok I can take that I have nutured strength of spirit to shield me...(Desiderata)

Have lunch and I'm really tired at this point. GO to see my aunt coz she works at one of the places I am applying to and heres where I learn the real truth about job hunting.
YOU NEED TO BE CONNECTED.

So she decieds I really don't want to be working in that company and have better prospects elswhere,. IN a few hours I have an appointment to see the DMD of the said company the next morning. AN inside quip into the company I'd been to earlier and end up meeting someone at the company I've been dying to work for who by the way is going to try hook me up. I mean what is the deal, can't an ordinary level Kenyan get a job?

Did I mention I've been ogled at and handed a business card already today ..MEN.....what can I say, glad I found me a good one.

Meet Wangu after hours for a coffee and its my most refreshing moment . Catch bus home (after fighting to get in by the way) Goodnight first day. Have an appointment 8.00am tommorow. See ya then.

DAY TWO

Wake up at 6.00am to make it to this place. Get hit on by the tout and boy I think i'll just get used to the unrequited attention from men.(ok I'm vain)

See the said DMD and get him to agree to forward me and my plight to the parties concerened. chat endlessly to my aunt and finally decide it is time to do some actual tarmacking for a change.

So its of to another company. With my aunts introduction obviously.I get past the snobbish receptionist once again. Meet another man who wants to know everything about me and thinks he can have my number...........
Anyway get to chat to this connection who takes my cv and promises to forward tis . At this juncture I'm hoping my next lesson is not never trust anyone. Go up a few more floors and sit for ages as I wait to hand in my CV . Another lesson being the begger you really can't be a chooser.

Finally drop of CV I've enjoyed my second day just as much as the first and guess what been asked for my number again............ But lets just stop counting.

Oh Chris leaves tonight. so hooray another dinner with the absolutely fantastic MKA alumni(and i'm not just saying that coz you are all gonna read it) But sad to see chris go. by the way Denis is it gonna rain today???

XXXX

see ya all later
Let God take care of you
