What a travesty..

While this thread may seem a tad presumptious coming from a guy whos numerously faked his way into Carni, it has got to be said. The recent deaths at the Carnivore/smirnoff bash this weekend in Nairobi was indeed a great travesty. Whats perhaps even worse is the manner in which the organisers and the hosts have dealt with the situation thus far.

I mean even their recent Pledge over stampede death probe is weak and reactonary fire-extinguishing at best.

I mean are there ANY in house regulations that govern the max number of people allowed into the event? are there any controls, technical systems, procedures to guage these metrics? Do the management at the Carnivore know How many people there are at a given instant on their grounds on a fatefu nite like this one in question? Do the promoters of these bashes (akina Smirnoff and the rest) take into consideration the projected turnouts and work from there?

From my on-the-ground experiences e.g. the new years eve bashes at the carnivore,I'm afraid to say i doubt if they, they real stakeholders to this issue) can come close to correctly answering these questions..I am not aware of any structures in place to ensure someting like this doesnt happen next friday. In retrospect lookin gback at that new-years-eve experience, if i can abstract from all the merry making, all the pints, all the shouting and partying, the reality of such a scenario are quite terrifying to be honest. That sea of humanity..rephrase: that DRUNK sea of humanity's propensity for catastrophe is way beyond the control of the 10 - 20 bouncers in place.

These evetns are just a disaster waiting to happen..not to cast doom on all you party goers..lakini now that ive been jerked to reality by these deaths, i think we have to take a closer look at the endemic causes .

Having worked as a student casual for our convocation(graduation) ceremony here at mcgill, I have often been awed by their strict adherence to safety policy's and procedures. Take last years for example, say during the Faculty of Arts convocation, kidu 4, 5000 graduants, students, freinds and family are in this one tent. The rigour and non-comprimising stance they give to fire and safety precautions I cannot take for granted any longer.

Carnivore, Smirnoff, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY, and preventative action. put a cap on how many people you allow at a given event. Tone down the promotion efforts, you'll still make a killing off the liqour! And for petes sake start carding those kidos - at the bar rather than at the door. It sumbuas me sana to imagine conservative old fashioned types like my folks wagging their fingers at their children saying "see , how many times have i told you not to go to those disco's", when the real finger pointing should be to bloody Carnivore and smirnoff..who seem to be guided only by the gazillions they make in a night like that.

the irony..This particular bash was touted as the "experience of a lifetime". I'm sure the three kids who died concur..
